Field Training
Positioning and how to call a game

ELIGIBILITY: To be eligible to umpire you must either play on a 7th or 8th grade baseball team or be in high school. Baseball or softball experience is preferred, but not required.
It has been challenging to schedule large, in-person training events under the current guidelines but we are working that out right now. Classroom training might be in the form of a Zoom meeting (which is not ideal but at least most of our kids are familiar with it through PUSD distance learning).
Click the button below to provide contact information for any child who is interested in being a youth umpire for the 2021 season. PBSF will follow up with training info and online game schedule (once state and county health guidelines allow) where kids can sign up for umpire duties. Feel free to email (peter_dahling@yahoo.com) with any questions.

PBSF Youth Umpire Program
Piedmont Baseball-Softball Foundation Umpire Program Background:
- The Piedmont Baseball-Softball Foundation annually trains and hires Piedmont students to umpire Pinto, Mustang and Bronco games.
- All prospective umpires must attend two training sessions taught by professional umpires before they will be allowed to work for the league.
- The training sessions lead to a thorough knowledge of the rules of the game, and an understanding of correct field positioning for all game situations, proper dress, pre-game conferences, and the importance of being prompt and prepared.
It is the Foundation's belief that our training will afford the students the opportunity to learn and improve key umpiring skills, and to gain the confidence necessary to be an essential, strong part of the Foundation, and the game.
