Registration will close on August 20, 2021 at midnight.  As a reminder, Fall Softball is for U8 and older, and Fall Baseball is for Pinto and older.  The Fall season runs from early September through the end of October for Baseball and mid September through mid October for Softball. The fall season is intended to provide a casual atmosphere for players to develop their skills. Most divisions will not have weekday practices and the fall season will consist only of one weekend game per week. 

Age Cutoffs for Baseball

Due to high demand and limited field space, families with Piedmont residency or enrollment in a PUSD school or a Piedmont-based school will be given priority.

All players must register in their age-appropriate division based on the following age guidelines.

The governing body of PBSF baseball is PONY Baseball. The PONY Baseball date-of-record for division assignment is August 31st.  The Fall season is the precursor to the Spring season, so your child plays in the Fall division to prepare for Spring.  Therefore your child's age on August 31, 2022 (yes 2022) determines their division assignment.  Note there is no fall ball for kids below the age of 7 (i.e. no Shetland).

Fall 2021 Pinto eligibility: birth-dates 9/1/2013-8/31/2015 (Age 7 or 8 on 8/31/2022)

Fall 2021 Mustang eligibility: birth-dates 9/1/2011-8/31/2013 (Age 9 or 10 on 8/31/2022)

Fall 2021 Bronco eligibility: birth-dates 9/1/2009-8/31/2011 (Age 11 or 12 on 8/31/2022)

Fall 2021 Pony eligibility: birth-dates 9/1/2007-8/31/2009 (Age 13 or 14 on 8/31/2022)

Requests for play-downs can be indicated in "Availability Notes" in the registration. Such requests will be considered, but are not guaranteed.   

Softball Division Descriptions & Age Cut-Offs

There are no practices in Fall Ball. All players must register in their age-appropriate division following age guidelines established by ASA, the governing body for amateur softball of which PBSF is a member.

Players should register for the division they will be playing in Spring 2022 season.  Note there is no 6U fall ball.

Requests for age exceptions can be indicated in "Availability Notes" in the registration. Please indicate why you are requesting an age exception, such as to better align with the school grade of your child.  Such requests will be considered, but are not guaranteed.

6U

8U

 Fall 2021 8U eligibility birth years 2013-2014
Teams will play Sunday games in Oakland.  At 8U, girls pitch the first two innings and the coach pitches the last three innings. There is still a strong focus on skill development and learning the game. Games are usually about 1 hour and 30 minutes long.

10U

Fall 2021 10U eligibility birth years 2011-2012
Teams will play Sunday games in Piedmont or Oakland.  Games are 1 hour 45 minutes long and now are full kid pitch with stealing and dropped third strikes part of the game.

12/14U

Fall 2021 12U/14U eligibility birth years 2007-2010
Teams will play Sunday games in Oakland.  Games are 2 hours and 15 minutes long.

Baseball Division Descriptions

Shetland (6U)

There is no Fall Ball for Shetland.

Pinto (8U)

Pinto Fall Ball is played at PHS Witter Softball Field. No practices. Each team plays one 90 minute coach-pitched game (following 30 minute warm-up) each Sunday.

Mustang (10U)

Mustang Fall Ball is played in Moraga and Orinda against Piedmont, Moraga and Orinda teams. There will be teams comprised of first-year Mustang players (U9) and teams comprised of second-year Mustang (U10) players. Each team plays one 120 minute kid-pitched game (following a 30 minute warm-up) each Sunday.

  • All games will be on Sunday mornings
  • In Orinda or Lafayette
  • First game: Sep 19
  • Last game: Oct 31

Bronco (12U)

Bronco Fall Ball is played in Moraga and Orinda against Piedmont, Moraga and Orinda teams. Weekday skill clinics will be held in Piedmont.

Pony (14U)

Pony Fall Ball is played in Moraga, Orinda and Piedmont against Piedmont, Moraga and Orinda teams. Weekday skill clinics will be held in Piedmont.
